Amsterdam apartment gets a complete make over
Renovation of living room, kitchen and dining area

For this home on the Admiralengracht in Amsterdam, the goal was to turn the open living space into a warm, stylish, and functional whole. Thanks to the large windows and the open layout, the apartment had a great foundation, but the different zones felt disconnected and lacked character and calm. With a full renovation and restyling, the home has been transformed into a harmonious living environment where materials, colors, and personal details come together seamlessly.
In the original layout, the kitchen was tucked away in a corner of the space and barely featured in the daily life of the home. In the new design, the kitchen has become the heart of the home. The custom-designed kitchen with a cooking island and dedicated coffee corner is now a real eye-catcher within the open living area. The large pendant lamp above the island underlines this central position and brings extra atmosphere and architectural balance to the space.
For the interior, a soft, natural color palette was chosen — warm beige and sand tones combined with accents of oak wood and subtle black details for contrast and depth. The kitchen was given a minimalist look with clean lines, refined finishes, and smart storage solutions that bring calm to the open living space.
To further improve comfort, underfloor heating was installed. This ensures a pleasant, even indoor climate and keeps the space visually calm, without visible radiators. Combined with the continuous vinyl (PVC) flooring, this creates a warm, comfortable base that naturally connects all the living zones.
The warm wood-look of the vinyl flooring ties in perfectly with the custom-made bookcase in oak veneer, the oak dining table, and the coffee table. The oak photo frames were also deliberately chosen to carry the same material and color story through the entire interior. The result is a calm, consistent whole in which every detail is aligned.
A particularly personal element in the living room is the artwork on the wall. The photographs were taken by the resident herself, mostly in Amsterdam — the city where the apartment is also located — giving the interior a unique, personal touch. Combining these images with natural materials, soft fabrics, and custom details creates an interior that not only feels stylish but truly tells the resident’s story.
The seating area was designed as a comfortable place to unwind, with rich textures, atmospheric lighting, and carefully chosen furniture that reinforces the architecture of the space. Clear sightlines remain open, allowing daylight to reach deep into the home and keeping the open living area feeling bright and spacious.
The result is an elegant, timeless interior with a warm, modern look and a subtle Italian flair — an open living space where aesthetics, comfort, and personality come together effortlessly.
