For an Italian family in Delft, we transformed the entire ground floor: the living room, kitchen, hallway, and restroom were given a completely new look. Where the spaces previously felt cold and empty, the interior now exudes warmth, character, and vibrancy.
More light, more storage, more ambiance
The original living room and kitchen not only lacked color but also practical storage space for books, toys, and cookware. With clever adjustments and careful material choices, we elevated the interior not only visually but also functionally.
The oak floor has been completely renovated and now has a lighter shade, visually brightening the entire space. In the kitchen, the layout has been redesigned: a radiator has been relocated to utilize the full length of the kitchen wall. Tall cabinets with an open niche and floating oak shelves have been installed on one side, while white wall cabinets provide additional storage on the other side. The result? Twice as much storage space and a more spacious worktop. The contrast between the warm oak and the dark green cabinets creates a serene and modern foundation.
Colors, textures, and statement pieces
The long wall of the living room has been given a unique finish: wallpaper with a wild silk look, a subtle matte sheen, and a horizontal texture in soft green and blue tones. This adds depth, tranquility, and refinement to the space.
The sofa—in a rich terracotta color and upholstered in luxurious velvet—now takes center stage in the living room and is a real eye-catcher. Behind and in front of the sofa are two playful white bookcases, a modular system by Muuto that creates a vibrant effect with its whimsical shapes and various compartments. The white of the cabinets makes books and decorative objects stand out, creating a colorful and dynamic whole.
The window treatments have been replaced: the old shutters have been replaced by light linen-look curtains combined with white Venetian blinds. This creates softer daylight and a warm atmosphere. The brown tones of the new Roman blinds subtly echo the large round rug, whose irregular texture plays with light and shadow for a layered, elegant look.
Hallway and restroom with character
The hallway has been given a completely new look, with a floor-to-ceiling bronze pivot door that makes a stylish statement. Bronze is subtly reflected in the clothes rail, ceiling light, and accessories.
The soft terracotta tone on the long wall seamlessly complements the color of the sofa and stair carpet, while picture ledges, a large round mirror, and a low shoe cabinet make the space both functional and inviting. The alcove opposite the mirror is painted in a soft green that echoes the kitchen cabinets and is cleverly furnished with a wall unit and a bronze clothes rail – a perfect combination of style and tidy convenience.
The restroom has also been completely renovated without any major demolition work. The old tiles have been given a cement-bonded wall finish with a robust concrete effect. A terrazzo sink, black faucets, and a pebble shaped mirror add contrast and character, while wooden details and soft lighting from a ceramic pendant lamp create a warm, zen-like atmosphere.
The Result
The house now feels like a warm, elegant, and personal space where functionality and aesthetics complement each other perfectly. Through the use of rich materials, natural tones, and clever layouts, we created an interior that exudes both tranquility and character—a place where the family immediately feels at home.
